Today for the most part was a really great day. Karl and I got to work together putting in a hardwood floor at one of his customers homes. I love building, renovating and creating so I was very content to sit my butt down, put the floor together and tell Karl the measurements to cut as I went. We completed half of the job with the flooring the customer already had but now have to wait for the rest to come in. That’s OK, that means I will have another good day to look forward to π
While I was sitting and measuring I was also doing a lot of thinking. I actually do that often and maybe even a little too much. Too much thinking causes worry and stress over things I can’t fix. I recently took an 8 day vacation. I had not had one in 4 1/2 years since I went to visit my dad just before he passed. Although I LOVE where I live I needed a break. For the most part I don’t leave the farm. My full time (non paying job) is caring for the animals. I also work from home in our work shop, building, repairing and refinishing furniture (yes, lots of chairs!!). Karl and I also run a Pet Crematory called “A Breezy Nook at Guardian Angel Acres”. That business has a story all it’s own. I’ll save that for later. Right now I want to tell you about my vacation and how I came home a different person. A much better person.
On the 16th of Oct my friend Colette and I flew to Philadelphia to begin my adventure. I have driven through Philly but never really saw the city. I am so NOT a City girl! We started at 5:30 am. We had a 2 1/2 hour drive to Atlanta Airport which I have to say is probably my #1 most hated city! On the way down we stopped for coffee (yes Colette I’m going to tell them!). Well the first problem was that all the coffee dispensers were empty and I had to wait. Colette on the other hand is a Pumpkin Freak and she was able to fill her cup immediately with some fancy Pumpkin Coffee and LOTS of whipped cream! I was patiently waiting for my plain Jane coffee and I heard Colette over my shoulder saying “Oh Crap” (or something very close to crap). When I turned around there she was standing in the middle of her entire coffee and whipped cream all over the floor!!! Oh and I forgot to tell you she was wearing an ankle boot because she screwed up her ankle the week before. All I could do was laugh and snap pictures! Our adventure had begun! My laughing never stopped for the whole 8 days! Here is a bit of evidence to prove I’m not making anything up π
Hahahahaha!! Just looking at this picture and thinking about that morning is making me laugh all over again! OK, back to the story! Atlanta wouldn’t be Atlanta if things went smoothly.Β We ended up in much more traffic than we had anticipated and our ride took 3 1/2 hours instead of 2 1/2 hours. Soooo, as I always say “everything happens for a reason! Thank Goodness that Colette screwed up her ankle because that allowed us to put her in a wheelchair and cut in front of everyone! No waiting π We would never have made our flight had she not been in a wheelchair, so THANK YOU Colette for being so clumsy and falling in that hole that you sprayed paint on so that you wouldn’t fall in the hole! You can’t make this stuff up! This story could be as long a War and Peace if I tell you every bit of fun we had! If anyone wants to know more about the airport let me know. I am going to skip to the plane. We were in “Comfort Seating”. I had never hear of that option before but it was great! First Class for poor people! We not only had a cute Flight Attendant but they gave us free drinks! Oh yeah! Mimosas in the morning will make the whole day wonderful and THEY did! Again there could be a lot more to that part of the story and I know Colette is hoping I will elaborate but I think not!
I’m going to skip to the reason we chose Philadelphia to begin with. It’s all because of a Beagle. A Beagle that I named Beedle 5 years ago when I was on my way to work and he was standing in the middle of the road. He refused to move and I opened my truck door to shoo him home and he got in! I was left with no options but to take him with me. Fast forward a few months and when no one claimed him I put him on a transport to New Jersey to find him a perfect home. Perfect is not a good enough adjective for the home he got! Louie as he is now know to all his fans lives with his two moms Janice and Jayne. He is the CEO (Canine Executive Officer) of the Philadelphia AND New Jersey Pet Pages magazines!
Louie living the High Life!!! THIS is what makes rescue so awesome!
Last year Jayne and Janice whom I had only “met” through Facebook drove 15 hours each way from Philly to Warne to surprise me and spend just 1 day with me! Unbelievable! We had such a great time that I knew I wanted to spend more time with them which is why I chose Philadelphia. I had 4 of the most awesome days with not only Jayne, Janice and Colette but my daughter Stephanie flew up and joined us. Once Steph got there we drove to Wildwood New Jersey to spend 2 days in Jayne and Janice’s beach house! Never in my life did I expect to be in a beach house OR in New Jersey in a beach house!!! I have so much more to tell you but for now I am going to sign off. It’s been a very long day and this girl is whooped! I promise I will write again tomorrow and I hope you will all come back to see more of our adventure! For now Good Night π
